Nashville Therapy Group

Sydney Holofcener, LCSW

Therapist at the Nashville Office

I know first hand that healing and recovery is possible. It would be an honor to accompany you on your journey.

Hi, I’m Sydney. I believe that everyone deserves a space where they feel seen and safe enough to explore all parts of themselves. My hope is that our time in therapy together can be one of those spaces. I consider the relationship that’s built between the therapist and client to be a key component of the healing process. As a relational therapist, I offer a compassionate, authentic and non-judgemental therapeutic space that honors you and all of your human complexities.

I am passionate about working with folks who are healing from complex and relational trauma, and are addressing complicated relationships with food and their bodies. In general, I work with clients who have identified patterns or behaviors that aren’t working for them anymore. They are ready to make a change but may be unsure about where to start or what that may look like (which is where I come in!). My hope is that I can assist my clients in learning how to exist in their bodies and engage with their emotions in ways that feel safe and accessible.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time outside in my garden, writing, reading, and sitting— in a park, coffee shop, or around a kitchen table, sharing a meal with friends and family.

Clinical Experience

I received my graduate degree and training at New York University, where I focused on the clinical treatment of mental health disorders in the context of trauma and identity. I have worked as a clinician leading group, family and individual therapy in psychiatric inpatient, residential and outpatient mental health treatment settings. I was trained in the treatment of eating disorders, and emotion-focused therapy at the Eating Recovery Center in Denver, Colorado. Most recently, I worked at Vanderbilts University Counseling Center, where I served as a primary therapist and eating disorder specialist.

I utilize evidence based treatment, with an eclectic approach, depending on the unique needs of my clients. I draw from various treatment modalities in my practice, including Internal Family Systems (parts work), attachment work, CBT, ACT, DBT, as well as somatic and mindfulness techniques.

Clinical Specialties

Most of my clients struggle with eating disorders, anxiety, childhood trauma, body image issues, people-pleasing, self-esteem issues, perfectionism, codependency, relational issues (family, friends, romantic, sexual), and difficulty with emotional regulation. Through warmth, trust, and tangible skill building I aim to walk alongside my clients as they pave the way to leading lives that are fulfilling and in alignment with their core values.

Regardless of presenting struggles, I utilize a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach and work from a trauma-informed, feminist and anti-oppressive lens—acknowledging the impact of interpersonal, systemic, and intergenerational trauma that affects one’s mind and body wellness.
