Hannah Dunsmore, M.A.
Director of the EMDR & Trauma Therapy Program
Sometimes our life journey can leave us with painful emotions and experiences to process, as well as unhelpful patterns that keep us stuck. You might be ready to “do the work” but unsure where to start. As a therapist, it’s my goal to come alongside you to help you develop new healthier coping skills and insight that can help you get unstuck. Of course, we can laugh sometimes too! As you grow and learn to relate to yourself with more kindness and compassion, your ability to experience deeper and more fulfilling relationships with others will grow as well. I’m a big believer that we can heal best when we feel safe, and this is always my primary goal for the therapeutic relationship. The mind and body have an amazing capacity to heal when given the right resources, and together we can find out what those are for you.
Clinical Experience
My clinical experience has been in inpatient psychiatric, academic, and private practice settings. My favorite therapeutic approaches utilize emotion-focused, somatic-based, and trauma informed techniques that address the whole person. I am trained in attachment focused EMDR, a well-researched trauma modality that allow the mind and body to work in conjunction during the healing process, often providing faster and more lasting relief for distressing symptoms. I also enjoy integrating expressive arts and experiential techniques into the therapy process for clients who find them beneficial.
Clinical Specialties
While I have experience working with clients with diverse presenting issues, my areas of special interest are anxiety and depression, trauma or abuse, attachment wounds, codependency and self-worth issues, dysfunctional family systems, families impacted by addiction, and grief/loss.
